Hewitt tipping classy Murray to reach final
Lleyton Hewitt today backed Andy Murray to beat Andy Roddick and become the first male British player to reach the Wimbledon final since 1938.
Murray cruised into the semi-finals with a 7-5 6-3 6-2 victory over Juan Carlos Ferrero yesterday, and then had the luxury of sitting back to watch Roddick edge a five-set thriller with Hewitt on Court One.
The pair will now clash in tomorrow's semi-finals at the All England Club and 2002 champion Hewitt believes Murray will come out on top on Centre Court.
"I think it's going to be a tough one for Roddick to win," said the Australian, who defied a leg injury to twice come back from a set down against Roddick to force a decider which the American won 6-4.
"When I've seen Andy Murray at his best, I think he matches up extremely well against Roddick.
"It's going to be an interesting match."
Roddick insists he has plenty left in the tank for his Wimbledon semi-final against Murray after an epic five-set win over Lleyton Hewitt.
The sixth seed needed nearly four hours to defeat Hewitt 6-3 6-7 (10/12) 7-6 (7/1) 4-6 6-4 in their quarter-final on Court One yesterday.
Next up for Roddick is a last-four meeting with the British number one on Centre Court tomorrow.
The American has been rejuvenated by an off-season spent working on his fitness and his reward is a second grand slam semi-final in six months after he also reached the last four in Australia.
Venus and Serena Williams believe they can continue to dominate the women's game for years to come as they focus on making this year's final at Wimbledon another family affair. Venus reached her semi-final with an easy win over Agnieszka Radwanska to meet world number one Dinara Safina, while sister Serena faces another Russian in the form of Elena Dementieva.
Sheffield's Jennifer Ren has vowed to make the tennis world sit up and take notice after her Junior Wimbledon campaign came to an end yesterday.
The 16-year-old, who suffered a straight sets 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Slovenia's world number 64 Nastja Kolar in the singles, had one last shot at glory as she teamed up with fellow Brit Nicola George.
But the British duo were no match for Dutch couple Quirine Lemoine and Angelique Van Der Meet at the All England Club, slipping to a 6-2, 6-1 defeat.
Ren will now return to the ITF junior circuit in a bid to improve her world ranking of 261.
