Hazel helps Bawtry to promotion

CHRISTINE Cox’s 21-3 win proved in vain as Mexborough were crushed 190-83 by Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A leaders Roundood.

David Abel (21-9), Pauline Draper (21-7), Keith Johnson (21-8), Colin Draper (21-7), Alan Bissell (21-4) and Peter Roddis (21-6) all won easily for the home side.

Yorkshire Main had a trio of 21-7 winners - Phil Rees, Hilary Bennett and Ken Crowcroft - in their 193-152 win over visiting Westfield Park.

Robert Mollekin won 21-7 for Roundwood B but Adwick won their Section B clash 184-158 thanks to Geoff Bratton (21-6) and Brian Stubbs (21-9).

Eric Phillips (21-3), Shirley Keeton (21-5) and Ken Booth (21-7) all shone for Armthorpe in their 186-132 victory over Brodsworth.

Hazel Cuthbert (21-8) helped Bawtry to a win (173-166) that sees them promoted to the top division for the first time, despite a 21-9 win from Askern’s Eddie Curtis.

Chris Jones (21-5) and Joe Walton (21-1) were the principal winners for second-placed Denaby as Hexthorpe suffered their second whitewash (210-131) in three games which dropped them to the bottom of the table.

Barbara Royston (21-6), Ken Ramsay (21-9) and Janet Spruce (21-7) both posted good wins in Parklands’ 196-101 Section C win at Parklands.

Keith Hall finished the match with a 21-5 win for league leaders Wickersley in their 207-133 victory over Roundwood C.

Kevin Dixon (21-4), Vic Buckley (21-7), Jim Hart (21-1) and Doreen Heptinstall (21-5) all won easily for Brodsworth B in their 160-135 Section D victory over Bawtry B, whose best win came from Sue Moyles (21-3).

Terry Brelsford (21-9) and Bob Sisman (21-7) both won well for a depleted Westfield Park B side as Keith Lowndes (21-7) led Pensioners to a 172-129 victory.

June Jones (21-0), Sue Moyles (21-7) and ex-Hexthorpe man Colin Stothard (21-9) were the best winners for Bawtry B in their 196-138 victory over Hexthorpe B.

Jean Birch (21-7) and Irene Cartwright (21-6) were the stars for Parklands B in their 186-168 victory at Brodsworth B.

Derek Strawbridge’s 21-5 win was enough to give Harvesters the spoils (176-163) at home to Adwick B.

Percy Simpson and Eric Teasdale won 21-9 for Rossington in their 68-61 Doubles League Division One win over Pilks Recreation.

Yorkshire Main pipped Carcroft 69-64.

Dave Rogers and Graham Garnett won 21-4 to give Westfield Park their first away win of the season (75-64 at Carcroft) and lift them off the bottom of the table.
