World championship racing has got the go-ahead to return to Donington Park after the circuit’s disastrous flirtation with F1.
Donington will host the second round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship on March 25-27 after the circuit received approval from the sport’s governing body. The circuit’s previous lease owner Simon Gillett signed a contract to stage the F1 British Grand Prix there and planned a £100 million redevelopment of the track. However the collapse of Gillet’s company meant that not only did the F1 race stay at Silverstone, but the Donington circuit was left in a state of disrepair. Significant updates to the circuit have now taken place though.
