City of Sheffield Diving duo Jack Haslam and Freddie Woodward produced a fine performance to claim sixth place at the European Diving Championships in Rostock, Germany.
Their total of 372 points was just three behind the Polish duo who finished in fourth position.
This was Jack and Fred’s first performance together in a major international event.
Most impressive was the consistency of their diving with all their more difficult dives achieving good scores.Their highest scoring dive, 69 points, was a front 2½ somersault with one twist.
In the individual events, Freddie reached the finals of both the 1 metre springboard and 3 metre springboard competitions. In the 1 metre springboard preliminary he finished fifth.
Nearly 30 divers from across Europe competed in the preliminary competitions with the top 12 contesting the finals.
Head coach Tom Owens said: “Freddie and Jack dived really well and showed to their international rivals that they are a force to be reckoned with.”
