Wilson Racing’s Max Cook was back on track at Donington last weekend, as he and Wilson Racing took part as a wildcard in the ADAC North European Moto3 standard class Championship.

The ADAC NEC is a similar championship to the British Superbike Moto3 support series that Max Cook is currently dominating. Whilst there were a few familiar faces also wildcarding in the event most of the riders were unknown to the team.

14-year-old Cook was racing against Dirk Geiger who races for Keifer Racing in the ADAC series and like Cook has won all his races this year. His team-mate Toni Erhard is also very competitive as is Simon Jespersen a Danish rider who also won a race in the European Talent Cup in Albacete earlier in 2017.

On Friday Cook was suffering some sickness but did well to qualify 12th on the combined GP and standard class grid and third overall for the standard class.

In the first race on Saturday Cook made a fantastic start and was leading the standard class by the end of the first lap. He managed to break-away opening a gap of over 4 seconds over his nearest rival. Unfortunately, his exhaust then broke and he lost the lead with just two laps remaining. In the end he crossed the line in third position.

The second race saw Cook lose touch with the leading group early on in the race. However, he fought back to the front group and tucked in behind Danish rider Simon Jespersen. As the race closed out he made his move to finish fourth and recorded his fastest ever lap around the track, a 1:40.1.

Gary Wilson said,” It was another successful weekend for Wilson Racing. Cook was riding against some top quality riders from across Europe. He was unfortunate in the first race but overall we are really pleased for him.”

Round four of the Hel Performance Motostar British Championship is at Knockhill on 16-18 June, where Cook will be reunited with his other two team-mates.
