Goran Ivanisevic believes Andy Murray is ready to win Wimbledon and has urged him to embrace the big occasion.
The 24-year-old will open his SW19 campaign next week once again rated alongside Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as one of the title favourites. The Scot has been a semi-finalist for the last two years b and is looking for a first grand slam title after three losing appearances in finals.
He faces world number 56 Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the first round on Monday and could meet Nadal in the semi-finals.
Ivanisevic knows how Murray feels after also losing his first three finals, all of them at Wimbledon, but he gained redemption in spectacular style by winning the trophy as a wild card 10 years ago.
“I think he’s ready. He’s beaten those guys before and he’s playing very well. He has to deal with the pressure. No excuses anymore,” he said.
“When you play on Centre Court, you have to enjoy it. It’s not easy to enjoy it all the time, especially when you’re losing, but don’t forget to enjoy it and play tennis.Djokovic, Rafa and Roger are so good, you give them one chance and they’ll beat you easily.”
In another intriguing match, John Isner will play Nicolas Mahut in a repeat of last year’s record-breaking 11-hour match.
