sheffield’s Danny Willett returns to relative home comforts this week with the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, which begins on Thursday.
The European Tour makes very infrequent visits to England. The English Open, British Masters and European Open are no longer on the schedule, which leaves golf fans with few opportunities to see the top players on English soil.
Willett has had a solid start to the Race to Dubai - a season-long competition spanning a minimum of 50 tournaments on the European Tour’s international calendar.
He is currently 65th on the list as he aims for a top 60 finish to book his place.
A good finish at Wentworth would help his cause but he’ll be up against world number one Lee Westwood, number two Luke Donald, number nine Paul Casey and all four current major winners.
