hallamshire Golf Club prodigy Matthew Fitzpatrick will take a two-shot lead into today’s final round of the prestigious Carris Trophy at the Broadstone Golf Club, Dorset.
The 16-year-old is enjoying a superb spell of form after winning the Yorkshire Under-18 Championship and finishing runner-up at the Yorkshire Amateur Golf Championship - losing only on the last hole of the 36 hole final.
Fitzpatrick qualified for the final two rounds of the tournament by shooting 70 and 69 on the opening two days.
And yesterday he moved into the lead after a six under par 64 with six birdies, including one on the 18th, and no dropped shots.
Jamie Harrison from Rotherham Golf Club is eight over par in 32nd position and Joe Dean of Renishaw Park Golf Club is 44th on nine over.
Previous winners of the Carris Trophy - the English U-18 Boys Strokeplay Championship - include 1987 US Masters champion Sandy Lyle.
