Lee hangs on to top spot

Worksop’s Lee Westwood heads an English one-two at the top of the world golf rankings.

Despite not playing at the weekend, Westwood remains as officially the best player in the world ahead of compatriot Luke Donald.

Donald needed to win to take top spot but a fourth place finish at the Players Championship in Florida could move him up only from third to second with German Martin Kaymer coming 19th at Sawgrass.

Winner KJ Choi improves from 34th to 15th, while Darren Clarke’s victory in Majorca takes him from 124th to 88th. Tiger Woods remains eighth.
