NEW Sheffield Union President Trevor Slack will be delighted at the start the Union’s Junior team has made to the Yorkshire Inter-District League season.
The juniors had a resounding 31-5 win over East Riding at Worksop GC. They were 10-2 up at lunch, including winning four of the morning foursomes, and later there were big wins for Nathan Fell (Lees Hall) 7&5, Lewis Thompson (Wath GC) 6&4.
This followed the opening match win over York at Abbeydale GC. Within the 27-9 tally there were six with a 100 per cent record - Guy Winstanley, Keelan Lowe and Jordan Smith (all Wheatley GC), Aaron Nairn (Rotherham GC), Nick Poppleton (Wath GC) and Ben Brewster (Bawtry GC).
New 2012 President Slack is a past captain of Worksop GC and well known on the local golfing scene having served as a member of the Sheffield Union’s Executive Committee between 1997 and 2006.
Trevor was a member of Sitwell Park GC during the 1970s and joined Worksop in 1980. He has served Worksop as both a member of the club committee and as a board director during the last 20 years and was Chair of their Centenary Planning Committee.
He is currently playing off 7 - but admits that this is on the way up at present! Originally from Sutton-in-Ashfield, he was a regular member of the Notts Union Seniors’ team and was captain of their Golf Captains’ Society during 2003 /04.
He is second golfer from Worksop to take on the role of President of the biggest Inter-District Golf Union in the northern region and 2012 is a very special year for Trevor as he and wife Janet celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary this month.
