The Yorkshire six man team of Chris Halley, Jamie Bower, Joe Dean, Will Whiteoak, Paul Lockwood and Nick Marsh was beaten into second place by old rivals Lancashire in the Northern Counties Golf Union’s County Championship Qualifier at Manchester Golf Club.
In this 36 hole event, the team from over the Pennines was too strong on the day, with a combined team score of 859, with Yorkshire trailing by 11 shots on 870.
Sheffield Union golfer Joe Dean from Lindrick Golf Clubs turned in a very commendable score of one over par 145 for his two rounds.
Joe, the reigning Dutch Junior champion and England B squad member, had a 74 in the morning but came back well in the afternoon with a one under par round of 71.
However, individual performance of the day came from Formby Golf Club member Paul Kinnear. The former Lancashire Boys Champion put on a real master class of scoring, finishing with a nine under par total of 135,So it’s Lancashire who now goes forward as the North of England’s representative in the English County Finals Championship at Minchinhampton Golf Club in late September.
