Young Sheffield golfer Matt Fitzpatrick is dreaming of a special sporting double for this this weekend.
The 19-year-old would love to make the cut at the US Masters and for his team, Sheffield United to succeed at Wembley.
“I’m gutted to be missing the Blades game but Justin Rose has kindly invited me if they make it to the final,” Fitzpatrick said in Augusta. “Hopefully I’ll be able to take him up on that, but we’ll see.”
“I don’t think there is anything more amazing than here at Augusta,” said the youngster from Hallamshire GC who was the leading amateur in the Open at Muirfield last year before becoming the first English winner of the US Amateur since 1911 a month later. “The course and the place itself is just fantastic. There’s nowhere in the world like it.
On his practice round with Rory McIlroy he said it was “incredible”. Fitzpatrick is out at 10.41am today British time with champion Adam Scott.
