THE successes enjoyed this year within the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs (SUGC) were reflected upon at the 85th annual dinner in Sheffield.

There has been success at national, regional and local level with Hallamshire GC’s talented young player Matthew Fitzpatrick winning the British Boys Championship.

Jonathan Thomson of Lindrick GC won the North of England U16 Open Amateur Championship whilst Rotherham GC took the Yorkshire Team Championship at Fulford GC.

Those, and more, were touched on in the keynote speeches from SUGC President Trevor Slack and Yorkshire Union President Stephen Larard.

Trevor also announced that Martin Brewis, Wortley GC’s President, will be SUGC President Designate for 2013, thus proudly joining next year’s SUGC President, Graham Needham from Doncaster GC, as the SUGC’s public face.

Beforehand, David Briggs of Renishaw Park GC, was presented with his Union colours in recognition of playing for the Senior Team on the required number of occasions.

For the first time since that memorable week in Chicago, all 12 of Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes are back together today when they compete in the circuit’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai starting today.

It features the top 60 on the European tour list.
