Rovers stretch unbeaten home league run to five

DONCASTER Rovers enjoyed the better of an exciting goalless draw after producing a much-improved performance.

Rovers, who were defending an unbeaten four-match home run in the Championship, had beaten the Bluebirds just once in 17 meetings since returning to the second tier of English football.

Cardiff got the game underway on a cold and sunny afternoon looking to complete the double over Rovers for the second successive season.

A fierce 25-yard goal-bound strike by midfielder Gillett took a deflection for a 17th minute corner.

Hird came to Rovers’ rescue on 22 minutes with a superb tackle on Cardiff’s leading scorer Miller as he was about to shoot, after the visitors had taken advantage of a wayward pass by Rovers skipper Stock.

Miller shot high from just outside the box with his first real chance of the game on 37 minutes after Whittingham had shown good pace when going past Stock and Diouf in the build-up.

Cardiff finished the half strongly with the Rovers defence held firm.

Midway through the second half Rovers had claims for a penalty turned down after Sharp, who had been put clear by Hayter - from Coppinger’s pinpoint cross, took a tumble in a one-on-one with keeper Marshall.

With 15 minutes left, it was still anyone’s game with one goal looking likely to decide it.

Coppinger, who had produced a much improved performance over last weekend, put his body in the way of a left-wing cross to diffuse a Cardiff attack at the expense of a corner.
