We’ll Be Back

HARRY Maguire has rubbished claims that being dumped-out of the FA Cup by Birmingham City will shatter Sheffield United’s self-belief.

Danny Wilson’s side exited the competition after being beaten 4-0.

But with United now focused solely on trying to gain promotion from League One, Maguire dismissed suggestions the score-line will cast a shadow over the remainder of their campaign. “We won’t let it deflate us,” the teenage defender said. “We’re trying to get better all the time and we’ll move forward with confidence. I thought it was a tighter game than the result suggests. There are positives we can take from the performance but also things that we can learn and work on as we try to improve. City were very clinical. They took their chances. We had chances too and on this occasion we didn’t. That was the difference.”

Wilson, who is bracing himself for a flurry of interest in some of United’s key names ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline, said: “There’s no way that my lads will be left with any psychological scars. I’m not worried about that at all. We’re disappointed to go out but we’re not distraught at the performance.

“Birmingham are a good side and sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and admit that on the day your opponents were better than you in certain areas. That’s what we’ll do but we can still take heart from a lot of aspects of our play.”

Wilson insisted he has yet to receive any bids for members of his squad.

But with the likes of Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Brighton and Leeds monitoring Nick Montgomery and Lee Williamson and Richard Cresswell also attracting attention, he said: “I’m too long in the tooth to think that probably won’t change. Hopefully nobody goes out because this squad has shown that it will push as hard as it can. With a bit of luck we might be able to bring some in but things constantly change.

“There was a lad I was looking at and then he gets selected for the first team so you think ’Damn. He’s probably not going to be allowed out now.’

“The biggest worry, not just for me but for all managers, is bids coming in right on the deadline when there’s little time to respond but we’re trying to be as prepared as possible by putting things in place should that happen.”

UTO Im getting bored of this my piggy chum so i will make it as clear as possible for you...... West Ham brought more away fans to your game than Birmingham brought to the Lane and we still got more than your gate. AKA less pigs at Swilsbro than Blades at the Lane. Not sure where you are going with funding club etc. We had more than you at the lane yes. You are giving it the large one regarding the fact that we were 3rd. Playing the pigs should make league position irrelevant. Derby games these days never sell out due to segregation (hence us being 4k off capacity) or in your case a crumbling stadium (cheese wedge anyone?) I imagine your game v us will be more than 4k off the capacity. Nice try with the Sunderland V Boro game and i hold my hands up that you found a derby but come on, your comparing apples with Oranges. It was on TV and was v Newcastle, thats like trying to say Blades v Leeds on TV is the same as palying your shower. Thanks for pointing out i did a little reserach of my facts but its a little pot calling the kettle as i imagine the gate statistic at the Sunderland game hardly rolled off the tongue without checking up did it you plank

OR IS IT JUST BECAUSE IM A SAD 53 YEAR OLD LYING LINCOLN5H1TE LAND T055ER who is full of BULL5H1T AND who just makes things up because im lonely and pathetic? Hmmmmmm i wonder. Stroll on!

MancNumpty don't think your funding club brought more than Birmingham! Not giving it large dummy, just stating the obvious....... Talking of giving it large because we're having a half decent season you mug, go look at the stats for the games you mention. You lot (AKA massive) had 1,000 more at the stain BUT look where you were when you played us at home in 02-03! You were 3rd BTW. Talking of not getting bums on seats how come you had 4,000 empty seats for this seasons derby? Guess which little club has sold it's home allocation of 29,000 tickets for when your shower come?? Which derby had 12,000 unsold tickets....... er that'll be the Sunderland v Middlesborough FA Cup meeting on Sunday 29th January then....... Stadium of light 49,000 capacity, crowd at the game 33,275, meaning unsold seats =15,725!!!!! You should try going to games instead of trying to read up on them and getting all your facts wrong. Good night little piggy!! UTO

UpThePigs: If you mean that there was 14k Blades at BDTBL minus 4k Brummies, you didnt clear 18k v wet spam and they brought more than Birmingham so do the math. You are all giving it the big one now you are having an half decent season (how many seasons have you been in this league again?) and you have sold out for the derby but the mighty Blades are in S6 in the business end of the season. All your armchair fans are out of the woodwork and even your own fans are moaning at that. Back in 20022003 you didnt even get 28k v us and we beat that attendance in the return fixture. Name me another derby in the UK where the home team had 12k of unsold tickets?

Talking of taking a risk, you have done the same with the r@pist you have. It's only now that he's found his level is he scoring the goals. Should you go back up he'll soon dry up. Because it was proven the year before he cannot cut it in a higher league. That's why no one has come in for him in the transfer window.

Dingle Dick'ead he wasn't good enough for us. If Maguires that good he'll soon be out of the stains revolving door, just like the rest. MancNumpty "The pigs have a knack of letting prospects go, i remember a certain Cantona who looked a bit tasty............." Er no we didn't want to risk 1 million on an untried player, the pitch was frozen and francis didn't want to take a risk, obviously with hindsight he was wrong, but at the time he didn't know. Nice to see Sharp making a possible move to Southampton....... You blunts really know how to hold onto the best players don't you?? Mind you Beattie has returned to the Massive!!!! MancNumpty when the go to the massive they know they'll go, considering you're a selling club!!! MancNumpty "my step dad was borne behind the Lane and took me there"........ Hope you have notified the police, no wonder you are all full of anger. With the sounds of it you have always got something up your ar5e!! 14,000 at the stain.... thought you were massive??? UTO

Sadly and more to the point because of teams like you voting the way they did small clubs that have great academies the likes of Crew Brentford and larger ones like the blades and soulthamton will lose out to the premiership making them even richer and the lower leagues poorer .this my be grammatically incorrect but factually true.
