ASKERN Villa just failed in their attempt to win the Northern Alliance Under-19’s Central Division.
They were set a task of having to win their last game away at Brodsworth Welfare by eight clear goals after Altofts had beaten Bottesford Town 8-3 in their final game.
Villa travelled to face their local rivals with all three goalkeepers unavailable and they had to play their top scorer Danny Wilton in goal.
Villa looked well on the way to winning the title when leading 6-0 at the interval. Joe Leesley scored five of the Villa goals with Craig Aspinall getting the other.
Villa were frustrated by Brodsworth in the second half and it wasn’t until the 70th minute that they it 7-0 when Leesley converted a spot kick.
Brodsworth pulled a goal back with a deflected shot to make Villa’s task that much harder. David White made it 8-1 with five minutes remaining.
Both Altoft and Askern finished with the same points and goal difference. But Altofts took the title on goals scored - 50 to Askern’s 48.
