Sportsman march on in double chase

THREE of the Doncaster Senior League’s FA Challenge Cup semi-final places have been decided with AFC Sportsman Rovers, Sutton Rovers and Edlington Town all progressing.

Sportsman had a 3-0 victory at South Kirkby Colliery’s County Senior League side in midweek - Guy Sandland, Philip Whitehead and Andrew Wood being their marksmen.

There was also a 3-0 success for Sutton Rovers at Carcroft Village courtesy of goals by Luke Chambers, Luke O’Shea and Codie Wain.

A hat-trick from Peter Dawson helped Edlington account for South Kirkby Colliery A 5-2. Craig Dyson adding the two other goals with Mark Studd and Adam Bailey sharing the Colliery consolation games.

Having reached the Premier Division KO Cup Final, AFC Sportsman Rovers maintained a double-figure advantage at the top of the Premier Division with a 5-0 triumph at Yorkshire Main.

Paul Hemmingway notched a hat-trick with Andrew Wood and Ben Pankovics completing their nap hand.

Second-placed Rossington Main beat rivals Retford Town 5-1. Dean Thornton hit a brace of goals with Niall Doyle, Karl Lang and Sam Utley all on target. Dan House replied.

Trailing 2-1 with 20 minutes to go, Maltby MW staged a remarkable comeback to beat Kinsley Boys 6-2.

Ryan Smyth and Scott Somerville both struck twice for Maltby with Mark Hall and Thomas Salt also finding the net. Adam Cameron scored both Kinsley goals.

Kinsley had enjoyed better fortunes in midweek, beating Swinton Station Athletic 3-1 with goals by Liam Haller (2) and Joe Howey.

Division One leaders Bramley Sunnyside boasted three hat-tricks in their 16-0 rout of South Kirkby Colliery B.

Liam Miree, Marc Trowill and Matthew Brunyee were all on target three times with James Askwith, Joshua Askwith and Sean Barrett, hitting two each. Richard Johnson rounding off the spree.

Hemsworth Town trounced Edlington Rangers 14-1. Kyle Lacey and John Probert both hit hat-tricks with Luke Heppinstall, Chris Roberts, Michael Horbury and Steve Sidebottom all finding the net twice. Richard Kingsburn scored Rangers’ consolation.

Hatfield Main kept in the promotion battle with a 2-1 win at former leaders Upton Brookside. Tony Holloway and Chris Cork scored with Luke Smith replying.

Two goals from Joel Smith gave Woodlands Rhinos a 2-1 success at Bawtry Town Res. Jermaine Sterling replied.

Hemsworth MW beat ISG Doncaster 5-3 through Paul Cooper (2), Neil Pickersgill (2) and Lee Mulroe. Slawomir Ostrowski, Tomasz Sowenski and Marek Szeszol replied.
