Howard Webb’s World Cup finally began today as the South Yorkshire referee officiated in the Group C clash between Columbia and Ivory Coast.

Webb’s name was trending on twitter for a period during the game as the Rotherham ref became the first English whistler to use the now famous vanishing spray to mark out where a wall should line up and where a ball should be placed.

The game finished 2-1 to Columbia with the referee’s only two bookings being dished out to two players he would know well - former Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora and Newcastle United’s Cheick Tioté
