Wednesday confirm Malta trip itinerary

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have confirmed their match schedules for the trip to Malta next month.

As expected, they will play in two triangular tournaments there as part of their pre-season tour.

The Owls will play two 45 minute matches on both of the matchdays – Monday, July 13 and Thursday, July 16 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun. The format of the mini tournaments is -

Matchday One: 8pm Sheffield Wednesday v Valletta; 9pm Loser of match 1 v Sliema Wanderers; 10pm Winner of match 1 v Sliema

Matchday Two: 8pm Birkirkara FC v Dingli Swallows; 9pm Loser of match 1 v Sheffield Wednesday; 10pm Winner of match 1 v Sheffield Wednesday

The format is to change if Valletta FC or Birkirkara FC qualify for the second round of the Europa League, formerly the UEFA Cup.

Wednesday fans are advised that tickets in advance should be be bought from Hillsborough by July 1.

"We think this will be an excellent trip with splendid conditions guaranteed in which to train and then a structured tournament for our match action introduction," said Owls assistant Russ Wilcox.

Wednesday have been invited to a top line Youth Tournament in Holland this Summer which will include major clubs from Holland, Brazil and Germany.

Dutch club VCA from Sint Agatha in the south-east of the country, will host the six-team Copa del Agatha on August 8 and 9 and Wednesday are in a group with Sparta Rotterdam and Germany club Armenia Bielefeld. The other group consists of Holland's NEC Nijmegen, Botafogo from Brazil and the Belgian club Standard Liege. are in Group B.

Wednesday have confirmed the celebrity game at Hillsborough on July 26 as the finale to the club's open day. The game is to raise money for the Sodje Sports Foundation, The Children's Hospital Charity and Boots For Africa. The game will feature stars from sports, the stage and screen – as well at six of the Sodje sporting family.
