Carlos Carvalhal has heaped praise on Ross Wallace and his ‘European style’ after the Sheffield Wednesday winger was named PFA Fans’ Players of the Month for August and September.
Wallace beat off competition from Reading’s Nick Blackman and Fulham’s Jamie O’Hara for the prize.
And Carvalhal labelled the 30-year-old deserving of the honour.
“I am very happy for Ross,” he said. “He is a guy with a very good tactical culture. He has a style we like, a very European style. He’s a good shifter and he’s good with the ball.
“Ross gives experience. He has been promoted two times before so he gives confidence to the team. He is a very nice guy and everyone likes Ross Wallace.”
Wallace made an immediate impact after his summer switch from Burnley, setting up a goal in the season opener against Bristol City before scoring against Ipswich Town.
He also provided the assists for all three goals against Fulham last month.
Carvalhal says Wallace is among a group of players at the club that understand football which is helping the side grow stronger.
He said: “Ross thinks when he is playing, he understands football. We have a lot of players, especially midfielders, that understand football. That is very useful for us. When one of my players wins something or is called to the national team, of course I’m feeling happy.
“I hope that next month there will be another Sheffield Wednesday player winning the prize.”
