GARY Megson hopes Julian Bennett makes a speedy recovery from the facial injury he sustained in the 1-0 FA Cup victory over West Ham.
The Sheffield Wednesday left-back collided with team-mate Clinton Morrison late on at Hillsborough and left the pitch on a stretcher and was replaced by Ryan Lowe.
Owls manager Megson said Bennett was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital. His knock contributed to 11 minutes of injury time.
“It was a great clearance to get it away but I think Julian’s come down and caught the back of Clinton’s head with his mouth,” said Megson. “He’s come off in a neck brace. Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it looked.
“Julian played his part in what was a really good result and, fingers crossed, he’s fine.”
With influential Stoke loanee Ben Marshall ineligible, Megson restored Bennett to the starting line-up on the left flank. The former Nottingham Forest player is primarily a full-back who is capable of operating on the left hand side of midfield.
On his Twitter account, Bennett posted: “I’m all good everyone. I just had seven stitches in my lip and all clear on my head scan.”
Bennett is likely to drop out for the mouth-watering League One showdown with Charlton Athletic on Saturday as Megson is expected to recall Marshall.
Megson also confirmed Reda Johnson picked up a hip problem against the Hammers. The Benin international was substituted with 31 minutes remaining of the third round tie but he is set to shake off the knock in time to face the Addicks.
Megson also handed a start to Jermaine Johnson up front and said he did “some good” and “daft things”.
