Head coach Carlos Carvalhal insists the Owls will deal with Fernando Forestieri internally following his red card against Preston North End.

The talismanic striker was given his marching orders following two bookable offences in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Deepdale

Forestieri, the Owls’ 12-goal leading goal-scorer, was booked for simulation before being penalised for a deliberate handball. His sending off means he will serve an automatic one-match ban and miss tomorrow’s Hillsborough showdown with Queens Park Rangers.

Carvalhal questioned Forestieri’s first caution, claiming the little Argentine was upended by Paul Gallagher, but had no complaints over his second booking.

“We will talk internally about this,” said the Portuguese boss. “We are in a good position can’t make these mistakes, especially in this part of the competition.

“These things can happen but we can’t repeat these mistakes in the future. We must correct these mistakes.”

With Forestieri ineligible, Lucas Joao is in contention to feature versus QPR as Carvalhal’s men seek a quick response following their first league defeat of 2016.

Sam Hutchinson (knee) remains a big doubt, but Aiden McGeady is expected to be available again for selection. The Republic of Ireland was a notable absentee from the match-day squad last weekend.

Carvalhal, who named an unchanged starting eleven for the first time this season, said: “Aiden received a kick on the leg in training but I think he will recover for Tuesday. It is not serious.”
