Sheffield Wednesday paid an emotional tribute to the late, great Ron Springett who passed away last week, aged 80, before their match against Fulham at Hillsborough.

A special matchday programme was produced featuring the former Owls goalkeeper on the front and before the game players and fans joined in, with a minute-long applause for the ex-England international.

Afterwards, head coach Carlos Carvalhal dedicated the 3-2 victory to Springett who made 384 appearances for Wednesday between 1958 and 1967.

In the matchday programme, fellow Hillsborough hero Mel Sterland said: "He's our most capped player to play for England, which is a fantastic achievement and I would have loved to have seen him play.

"Like every Wednesdayite I've heard stories as to just how good he was but I would have loved to have seen him play myself.

"He is a legend in every sense of the word."
