GARY Megson is set to make changes for tonight’s FA Cup replay against Blackpool and give a new twist to the fight for places in his Wednesday team.
Any players who are called up will have the chance to stake claims to be in the league side and follow in the footsteps of David Prutton.
The midfielder was recalled to a much-changed side for the first tie at Blackpool and played so well that he stayed in for the matches against MK Dons and Yeovil, with Chris Lines missing out.
Strikers Clinton Morrison and Ryan Lowe played at Blackpool and could be among those to have fresh opportunities tonight. Both were on the bench again last Saturday but earned praise for their contribution as subs and gave Megson food for thought, especially with Gary Madine being taken off for the second successive game.
“When Ryan and Clinton went on, on Saturday, it gave us a lot more penetration,” said the manager. “The challenge is there for all the players. I don’t think there is anyone, with the exception of Danny Batth, who hasn’t got direction competition for his place.
“Ryan and Clinton are both good players. When they went on, on Saturday, they caused the Yeovil centre- halves, Richard Hinds and Bondz N’Gala, different problems from the ones they’d faced earlier.
“They link up well, they’re both sharp. Whoever plays for us has to deliver. If you’re not doing it, you’re putting your place at risk or might be coming off the pitch.
“David Prutton isn’t keeping the shirt warm for anybody else: He’s gone in and done well, so the decision I made has been vindicated; he’s got to keep playing well, and it’s the same for everybody.”
On-loan John Bostock played as a sub for Spurs in a 3-0 cup win against Cheltenham so is cup-tied, as is Miguel Llera, who aided Brentford’s campaign, but changes are likely to be wide-ranging. Rob Jones will replace Llera.
