Suspension looms for Reda

OWLS match-winner Reda Johnson fears that it will be impossible for him to avoid suspension because of his combative style of play.

The powerful left back who hit the winner against Yeovil picked up his ninth booking of the season on Saturday and is one away from an automatic two-match ban.

It is a worry for the defender ahead of some big games and knowing that he must avoid a yellow card until April 8 if he is to avoid suspension.

“No chance,” admitted Johnson. “It’s not easy for me because of my game; I am powerful and like to challenge. I think I will get another booking, definitely. It’s a long season.

“I will speak to the gaffer and we will see what we can do.”

Johnson, who served a one-match ban in October for five bookings. was carded in the 21st minute of Saturday’s 2-1 win after he and David Prutton converged on Yeovil midfield player Joe Edwards.

The defender insists: “It wasn’t me. David took his leg and the refereee gave me the card. I said to the referee ‘it’s not me, it’s David.’”

Johnson however refused to make a fuss about the apparently mistaken identity

He looks set to face Blackpool tomorrow in the FA Cup replay at Hillsborough after missing the first tie because of a back injury.

“It is a very good game sheffield wednesday against Blackpool,” he added. “If I take a yellow I will be banned for Exeter (away on Saturday) and Stevenage (at home the following Tuesday).

“We have two big games against Chesterfield and Sheffield United; I want to play against United.”

Gary Megson will find out today whether loan signing John Bostock can play in the Cup.

The Owls boss said of Bostock’s debut against Yeovil: “He did some good things and some poor things.

“He just needs to realise it’s not Tottenham Court Road, this is South Yorkshire and Sheffield 6; we run about and have a right good go; if he allies that to the quality he’s got he will be a really big asset.”

Megson has been asked by chairman Milan Mandaric what he thinks the squad needs now.

The manager feels that an emergency loan signing may been required at some point, with Johnson on nine cautions and Danny Batth and Rob Jones on seven, but that the club can get by for the time being.

So Red Johnson thinks that his style of play is going to get him bookings He is possibly right but consider that real unstoppable force who played for Wednesday, Derek Dooley, how long do you reckon he would have lasted with today's referees ?

Obviously Reda is going for a deliberate booking tomorrow ,and i dont blame him . Until this stupid rulebanning players after racking up so many yellows is scrapped , tactical bookings will always happen . id rather miss Reda for the Exeter and Stevanage games then the two derbies . Bit daft of him to openly admit his plans in the paper though. Im sure Meggo will be having a word in his ear`ole about that .

Yes Mr B, the last second of injury time at the end of the game would probably be better, knowing us!

I tell you what Mr B, JJ looked like a real superstar on Saturday and apart from him, David Prutton, Reda & the 3 subs, the rest of the team looked a bit dopey, didn't they? Had Gary Megson given them the day off? Has Otsemobor been given the season off? It took a crocked old Wednesday reject in Richard Hinds to show us what a centre half with brains & pace looks like, Lierra & Batth didn't look as good as they normally do defensively, Reda was hot or cold and Semibore, flipping eck, any more laid back, oh hang he was lying down at one bit, no twice, three... Sod it he was useless. I hope Buxton plays Tuesday night. UTFO!

So, a near perfect scenario would be for Reda J to score the winner in the 89th minute - take off his shirt in celebration - and get booked! any better alternative?....by the way...'Carry On Up The Pool53'....are you really so pathetic? seemingly, you do not have the mental abiltiy to engage in friendly, constructive football banter....hang on a minute, that's very unkind of me, my apologies...afterall, this is the Blackpool Town FC supporter we are asking this big ask of!...so, like the donkeys, trot on!

#11 Piginaworldofpigs, Pot & black you dimwit. I remember Wembley car park when Utd fans & Owls fans got off the same coach to stop one of your bullying pigs. He is dead now & good riddance! None of these so called hard fans would last a round in any proper fighting event. Why don't you join Pool boy at his B&B on Tuesday night & you can console each other after the game?
