Strong Johnson defended by Megson

GARY Megson, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, insists he is not worried about fans favourite Reda Johnson’s disciplinary record.

The Benin international will now serve an automatic two-match suspension after collecting his 10th booking of the season in the 3-0 defeat to Blackpool in midweek.

It is the second time centre-half turned left-back Johnson has been ruled out because of suspension in the 2011/12 campaign. In October, he missed a match after picking up five bookings.

Johnson, who is banned for the trip to Exeter City and the home clash with Stevenage, has been cautioned 15 times since joining the Owls from Plymouth Argyle.

But Megson said: “I am not concerned. When people look at Reda and the stature of him, you would think he is a lot older than he actually is. He is only 23 and has not played a huge amount of football.

“Some of the stuff he does is reckless, not in a nasty way, but he just sees the ball and goes careering in and because of his size and physique, people tend to bounce off him a touch. He has got himself 10 bookings but hopefully he will learn these lessons.”

I've heard it all now, Utd fans accusing Wednesday players of being thugs! I don't recall Reda fracturing anybodys skull and nearly killing them. I'm sure he gets booked because of his size when other players wouldn't have. BTW, He's only 23, I thought he was 33!!!!

he is on 10 bookings and will be suspended, but he is showing commitment and what it means to be a Wednesday player. As for the 'thug' label, get real and look at your own so called players. Also, putting goals in from left back position, not so easy.

There's nothing wrong with getting stuck in and making sure the opposition winger knows who you are. It's all to mamby pandy nowadays. 10 bookings and 6 goals isn't a bad return, 1 goal for every 1 12 bookings!!!

Agree. Also if Terry is suspended the alleged rapist should be suspended on full pay. Double standards from the blades as usual. Being accused of rape is a seriouse offence.
