GARY Megson’s bid to turn three of his loan signings into permanent ones come January could be a major factor in Sheffield Wednesday’s League One promotion bid.
The Owls boss has made no secret of the fact that he wants to add Stephen Bywater, Danny Baath and Ben Marshall to the payroll permanently when the transfer window opens.
All three have shown what they can bring to the club at League One level and there is a feeling that if Megson can pull it off it would prove a massive boost - and probably a critical one - in the fight for a top two spot.
Were he to miss out, then there would be no hiding the fact Wednesday would be less well equipped and Megson would be left seeking replacements of similar calibre.
Bywater and Baath would appear the more straightforward to bring in whereas Marshall is coveted by others and there is still parent club Stoke to persuade on that one.
Wednesday are gearing up for Saturday’s big clash with Huddersfield, who have now fallen four points behind them. They look set to top Hillsborough’s best gate this season, 24,514, against Chesterfield.
