It is not every day a Championship footballer gets the opportunity to share an audience with the best player on the planet.
For giant Owls striker Atdhe Nuhiu, that moment duly arrived on Wednesday, October 22.
He watched his beloved Real Madrid outclass Liverpool 3-0 in the Champions League, just hours after meeting Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the Spanish club’s team hotel.
“Jose Semedo is very close friends with Cristiano and he asked me if I wanted to watch the game and I said yes,” Nuhiu told The Star. “It was just Jose and I who went to watch it.
“We had a drink with Cristiano and it was 20 to 25 special minutes. He was focused on the game so he didn’t have time to speak for too long. He was a really friendly, nice guy. I could tell what a nice person he is.
“I’m a Real Madrid fan so it was great to meet him.”
Ronaldo, booed every time he received the ball, opened the scoring, hooking a superb right foot effort beyond Simon Mignolet. It was the former Manchester United player’s first ever goal at Anfield.
“It was one heck of a goal,” said Nuhiu. “He said he had never scored against Liverpool at Anfield.
“He was telling Jose and I this and we said to him we would bring him some luck and you are going to score and he did!
“It was a really good atmosphere. Liverpool started well in the first 15 to 20 minutes but, after that period, you could see the quality of Madrid was much higher.”
Meanwhile, Semedo has confirmed that two-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo plans on attending a match at Hillsborough this season.
The pair are close friends, having spent time together at Sporting Lisbon’s academy as teenagers.
Semedo, contracted to Wednesday until the end of the campaign, says he regularly speaks to Ronaldo.
“Cristiano is very keen to come and watch a game,” said the Wednesday favourite.
