Despite recording just two victories from their last seven Championship matches, Wednesday remain well-placed to mount a promotion challenge.

Carlos Carvalhal’s charges are only two points adrift of the Play-Off placings and will fancy their chances of picking up a positive result at lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Although the Owls have gone three matches without a win, captain Loovens reckons the squad are heading in the right direction.

“I think we are on the right lines,” insisted the Dutch centre-half. “We were miles better against Fulham than in the last game, especially in the first half.

“I don’t think we are far away. It is just the little things we need to look at.

“If we had gone in two or three up at half-time against Fulham, it would have been a totally different game. Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and composure. It is fine lines in football.”

Wednesday could be without Gary Hooper for the trip to Molineux. The striker was sent for a scan on Monday after sustaining a hamstring problem in the second half of Saturday’s draw.

Carvalhal said: “It seems like it might be a muscle problem but we must analyse him during the week.”

While Hooper is a major injury doubt, Daniel Pudil is expected to be passed fit to play. The left-back suffered a minor knock while away on international duty with the Czech Republic last week. Carvalhal also cited tiredness as a reason why Pudil was not risked.
