Glenn Roeder is desperate to see Hillsborough packed full on a regular basis - to restore the stadium’s once intimidating reputation.

Roeder - who joined the Owls as a sporting director on Monday - watched Wednesday in their breathless draw at Bournemouth last weekend, where they were backed by more than 1,200 supporters.

The former West Ham United boss says witnessing the fans in full voice brought back memories of when Hillsborough was a difficult place to visit for away teams.

And he says helping Wednesday back into the top flight will help deliver a full stadium once more.

“The supporters just reminded me of how great they are,” Roeder said. “I thought they were fantastic even before Wednesday took the lead, they were out-singing Bournemouth crowd comfortably.

“When Hillsborough is full, it’s a very intimidating place to come and play.

“It will be good to get back that feeling of when away teams arrive here on the coach and step off the coach that they feel intimidated by playing here because that’s how it used to be. It was never an easy place to come and win a game of football.

“One of my major roles is on the recruitment of the senior players and that will need to be the first job that is addressed and attacked now so that come the start of next season, our supporters can see we’ve raised the quality of the squad.”

Wednesday announced yesterday that CEO Paul Aldridge will leave the club at the end of the 2015/16 season.
