Liam Palmer has warned Championship defenders they will have their hands full when Ross Wallace takes to the field next season.

The 30-year-old, who started his career with Scottish giants Celtic, moved to Hillsborough earlier this month.

Wallace made 15 Premier League appearances Burnley last term, making one start, but was released following the club’s unsuccessful bid to maintain their top-flight status. The former Scotland international has spent the majority of his career playing on the left hand side of midfield but can also be utilised on the right flank or in the number 10 position.

Right-back Palmer told The Star: “Ross [Wallace] looks a great player in training. He’s got that killer pass that can unlock a defence. He looks a good acquisition.

“We didn’t score enough goals last year but Ross is the kind of guy who can find gaps in a team’s defence. He can commit players and has got a good strike on him. Hopefully he will chip in with a few goals for us.”

Along with the rest of the squad, Palmer and Wallace jetted out to Portugal yesterday to begin their five-day warm weather training camp in the Algarve. Wednesday lock horns with Sporting Clube de Braga in a friendly tomorrow night.
