Roared on by a bumper crowd, Wednesday raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening 25 minutes, with Hirst taking his tally for the season to 36 in all competitions.
The Tigers threatened to mount a comeback when Robbie McKenzie converted a penalty just before half-time after Brandon Fleming had been brought down.
But the Owls put the contest out of their reach in the 64th minute when Williams rose highest to head in Jack Stobbs' corner.
