Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes, the son of Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeping coach Andy, is reportedly wanted by a number of Championship clubs.

Promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough, Derby County and Norwich City are all believed to be interested in signing Rhodes on loan.

In recent days, the 25-year-old, who registered in Rovers’ 2-1 triumph at Hillsborough last week, has been linked with a summer move to Wednesday. It is no secret Stuart Gray wants to strengthen his attacking options as he seeks to reshape his squad in preparation for the 2015/16 season.

But Rovers boss Gary Bowyer, speaking ahead of tonight’s meeting with Bolton Wanderers, rubbished speculation suggesting they will allow Rhodes, who has plundered 66 goals in 131 matches since moving to Ewood Park in a club-record £8m deal from Huddersfield Town in August 2012, will leave.

“I don’t understand why we’d want to even consider loaning one of our players to rivals,” said Bowyer. “We’ve had plenty of chats, of course we have but he’s starting on Wednesday against Bolton and we’re looking forward to him scoring like he did last week at Sheffield Wednesday.

“It’s simple. We’ve got 11 league games left and a Cup quarter-final with a potential visit to Wembley.

“Why we would want to be letting any of our players go at this stage is beyond me.”

Rhodes, who has struck 13 goals in 35 appearances this term, was the subject of two failed bids from Hull City last August.
