DAVE Jones hailed a “magnificent” effort by his Sheffield Wednesday team after they battled back to earn a point in an outstanding match at Burnley.

The Owls boss feels that his team deserved not one point but all three as they ended a six-match losing run with two goals by Chris O’Grady and one from Michail Antonio in a 3-3 draw.

Wednesday were behind three times as Charlie Austin bagged a hat-trick.

“We were magnificent,” said Jones. “I think we had 15 shots to their six or seven. If we defended a bit better from crosses, we’d get more joy.

“We deserved to win. If the referee does his job a couple of minutes in, they (Burnley) should have a player sent off. He’s clipped Antonio when he’s clean through. He (the ref) tells me at half-time he saw it - I don’t believe him. He hasn’t watched the clip I watched.

“All of a sudden we were up against it. Then it turns into a game that crowds will come back to.

“I can’t fault them. They were superb. It was a game we should have won.”

“We conceded goals when we were on top. We took the game to them straight away. Antonio got in two or three times,” he said, “Again we can’t get done with the goals we get done with when we’re applying pressure.

“But to come back to keep fighting and scrapping ... it would just have been nice to get our noses in front.”

Reda Johnson, who has a bruised foot, has tweeted that he will be out for two months. Jones responded by saying “That’s not what I’ve been told” and described Twitter as the “scourge of football”.
