Stuart Gray is warning the promoted League One clubs to expect an intense battle in the Championship.
Wednesday have fought two scraps against relegation after stepping up in 2012.
With Rotherham, Brentford and Wolves the latest to join them, Gray says: “It’s the intensity; the Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday. They’ve had that in their league, but they might get punished more for the odd mistakes, whereas in League One and Two you will get away with it.
“The teams who caused us problems last season were Wigan and Derby, who both took six points off us. They are going to strengthen and have quality in depth. Three sides are coming down from the Premier League with their parachute payments, and Wolves, with their fan base and history, will be thinking they can get back-to-back promotions. It’s going to be tough.
“One thing we need to do is get off to a better start than last season’s.”
