Captain Glenn Loovens is pushing for a Sheffield Wednesday recall as the Owls prepare to travel to Birmingham City.
The commanding centre-back is available for selection again, having served a one-match suspension for picking up five yellow cards.
In Loovens absence, Jose Semedo wore the captain’s armband.
Speaking to the press corps today, Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, said: “Glenn is an experienced, calm player. He’s got unbelievable leadership qualities both in the dressing room and on the training pitch. He is a talker and an organiser. He is an extension of my arm.”
It promises to be a tough defensive call for Gray, with Guinea international Kamil Zayatte stepping in for Loovens on Saturday and delivering an assured performance as Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 at struggling Bolton Wanderers.
He said: “Kamil has come in and played very well. That’s why the decision is tough.”
Hallam Hope was expected to train with the first-team squad today, having shaken off a hamstring problem. However, the Everton loanee is unlikely to be risked at St Andrews.
Kieran Lee (groin) is running again and Sam Hutchinson (back) is edging closer to full fitness but the midfield duo will play no part against 20th-placed Birmingham.
