Midfield enforcer Jose Semedo has dropped the biggest hint yet he is close to signing a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

Along with Chris Kirkland, Glenn Loovens, Kieran Lee and Chris Maguire, the 30-year-old was offered fresh terms by the Owls nearly a fortnight ago.

And the Portuguese player, who featured 33 times for the Owls as they finished 13th in the Championship last season, last night posted on Twitter: “Looking forward to next season. Already gearing up. My holiday is gonna be spent on the treadmill. #swfc love it! Will work hard!!”

Semedo, who joined Wednesday on a free transfer from Charlton in 2011, turned down interest from several clubs in his homeland to pen a one-year deal last summer, with an option for a further 12 months. Speaking after agreeing his new contract, Semedo said: “I love everybody here and want to finish my career at the club. This is what I wish. It is a perfect marriage and the love I feel for this club is something I can not explain.”

A foot injury kept Semedo on the sidelines at the back end of the 2014/15 campaign, although he started their final two matches against Leeds United and Watford.

Ex-Owls midfielder Chris Lines, meanwhile, helped Bristol Rovers secure an instant return to the Football League as they beat Grimsby on penalties in the Vanarama Conference play-off final.
