There is a distinct possibility one of the world’s best footballers will attend a Sheffield Wednesday home match this season.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is good friends with Owls midfielder Jose Semedo. The duo spent time together at Sporting Lisbon’s academy as teenagers.

Semedo, who penned a new one-year contract with Wednesday earlier this summer, says he regularly speaks to Ronaldo, claiming they text each other almost every day.

In an interview with PortuGOAL, the 29-year-old said: “I hope he will come to a Wednesday match this year. We need to get the right day.

“I hope we play one Tuesday night when he doesn’t have a game so he can come. He tells me he wants to come and watch. As soon as we get the opportunity, he will be here.”

Semedo, who has failed to shrug off a muscle problem ahead of today’s friendly at Barnsley, added: “He [Ronaldo] is blessed by god with his talent which is not common in many players but he combines that with professionalism every single day.”
