SHEFFIELD Wednesday have the firepower to maintain their unbeaten run under Dave Jones today and keep up the pressure on United, believes Lewis Buxton.
The defender expects that after beating Huddersfield away the Owls will avoid any complacency as they face an OIdham side who have lost their last four games and went down 1-0 at home to Charlton on Saturday.
Buxton said: “There’s a bit of pressure on us to win every game. But I think we have a good enough team.
“We feel fairly comfortable. We seem to be scoring freely. Michail Antonio is looking good, Jermaine Johnson is doing well, and Keith Treacy has come in an looks a good player; he only came on for five minutes against Huddersfield but he played well.
“We’ll be confident, going into this game.”
Miguel Llera and Nile Ranger hit their first goals for the club as the Owls made it six wins in seven games under Jones.
For the third match in a row, the Owls kick off early - today’s game has a 12.45pm start and is live on TV - and can leapfrog into second place over United, who play at Rochdale tomorrow.
Buxton added: “Everyone knows what’s at stake. If everyone is on their game and plays like we did against Huddersfield, we should win.
“I think we’ve got to win this game, continue to play as we have been doing and put the pressure back on Sheffield United. All we can do is keep winning and hope they slip up.”
Reda Johnson looks set to miss out today because of a thigh injury and could be replaced at left back by Julian Bennett, though Mark Beevers did a sound job as a sub there.
Jones said: “Games like Saturday’s take care of themselves. Now we’re going to have to break down a team who will come and make it difficult for us..”
But Oldham boss Paul Dickov said: “If I get a performance similar to the one we gave against Charlton, we have a good chance of winning.”
