Midfield duo Lewis McGugan and Sam Hutchinson are doubts for Sheffield Wednesday’s clash at table-topping Bournemouth this weekend.
Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, says McGugan and Hutchinson are still struggling to shake off viruses. McGugan, on loan from Watford until the end of the season, came off in the 74th minute of Tuesday’s 1-0 success over Brentford while Hutchinson was a notable absentee from the match-day squad.
Gray, speaking to the press corps today, said: “Sam and Lewis have viruses so we will leave it as late as possible.”
If McGugan and Hutchinson are ruled out, Filipe Melo is expected to keep his place in the starting line-up.
There are no other new injuries for Gray to contend with as they look to cause a big upset down on the south coast.
Chris Maguire, Sergiu Bus and Atdhe Nuhiu are all pushing for recalls, with Gray contemplating personnel changes.
“I always prepare my team to get a result,” said the Owls boss, who has confirmed Will Keane (ankle) is due to resume first-team training at Middlewood Road on Monday. “All the players are chomping at the bit and wanting to play. We have got three great games left.”
