Sheffield Wednesday’s players are under orders to keep their cool in this afternoon’s pressure-cooker South Yorkshire derby.

On their last trip to Rotherham United, the Owls lost a pulsating Capital One Cup tie 2-1 and had substitute Jermaine Johnson sent off.

Stuart Gray, the Wednesday head coach, is urging his players to remain disciplined when they take to the field at a sold-out AESSEAL New York Stadium.

He told The Star: “We start with 11 and have to keep 11 on the pitch. We must play our own game and not get caught up in the moment.

“The players should know the importance of a local derby. I want the challenges to go in. I don’t want people backing off. If you back off and back off, you end up conceding like we did with the third goal against Wolves.

“We have to get challenges in, close people down and get in Rotherham’s faces. When we get the ball down and play, we need to hurt teams more than we have done in recent weeks. I’m looking for us to bounce back.”
