Centre-half Gavin Gunning, who is reportedly a summer transfer target for Sheffield Wednesday, has admitted he is leaving Dundee United this summer.

The out-of-contract Irish defender made the admission following United’s 2-0 loss to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final last weekend.

Gunning, who spent four months on loan at Rotherham United during the 2009/10 season, said: “This is probably going to be my last game for the club.”

The 23-year-old, who began his career at Blackburn Rovers, played 33 times for the Tangerines last term as they finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership.

When asked about his long-term future, Gunning added: “You never know what is around the corner. I will have to speak to my family about it and then we will go from there.”

Owls head coach Stuart Gray refused to comment on speculation linking them with Gunning earlier this month.

“There are going to be names that are thrown about,” he said. “I would imagine it is the agents trying to create a bit more interest.”

Former Owls striker Ryan Lowe has rejoined Bury.
