Sheffield Wednesday have today boosted their attacking options by capturing Leicester City striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher on loan.

Taylor-Fletcher has slipped down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, having not featured for the Premier League club since their shock cup home defeat to Shrewsbury Town on August 26. His only other appearance came as a late substitute in their 2-0 loss at top flight heavyweights Chelsea.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has predominantly fielded record-signing Leonardo Ulloa, Jamie Vardy and David Nugent up front.

Taylor-Fletcher, formerly of Huddersfield, Lincoln, Hull, Leyton Orient and Dagenham & Redbridge, has bagged over 100 league goals in his career. The vastly-experienced player, who can be deployed out wide or up front, notched six goals in the top flight with the Seasiders in the 2010/11 season.

In six years at Bloomfield Road, Taylor-Fletcher found the back of the net 36 times in 215 league outings. The Liverpudlian briefly trained with Wednesday in July 2013 after seeing out his contract at Blackpool but he was not offered a deal by former Owls manager Dave Jones.

The 33-year-old joined Leicester on a free transfer last September but only made four starts in his 23 appearances as Pearson’s side went on to claim the Championship title. Taylor-Fletcher is contracted to Leicester until the end of the season.

The Star understands Taylor-Fletcher has initially moved to Hillsborough on a month’s loan and was named on the bench against Norwich this afternoon.

He told swfc.co.uk of his delight at having joined Wednesday.

He said: “It’s happened quickly and I couldn’t be happier.

“The last six weeks or so have been really frustrating for me because as a professional footballer you want to play games.

“As soon as I heard of the interest from Sheffield Wednesday I wanted this to happen.

“This club is a proper sleeping giant.”
