Stuart Gray has completed his first business of the summer after snapping up two young defenders.
Southampton’s Matt Young and Stoke product Ed Sanders have both joined the Owls on one-year deals.
Young arrives after a trial spell at Hillsborough. The 20-year-old is primarily a right back but can play across the back four and he skippered the Saints’ U18 side.
He was a trainee with Tottenham before signing scholarship forms at Southampton at 16 and penning his first professional deal two years ago.
“Southampton have some extremely talented players and when you play and train alongside them, they obviously rub off on you,” Young told the club’s website.
“I’ve played with players who pushed on into the first team there including the likes of Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers and good luck to them.
“Now I’m happy to be here and to take my own path.
“I want to get a good pre-season under my belt, show the gaffer what I can do and try to get in his thoughts for the start of the season.”
Fellow new signing Sanders also captained Stoke’s U18 side of which he was a mainstay after signing scholarship terms at the age of 16.
The 18-year-old started his footballing life with Portsmouth. He is a centre back and is likely to join Wednesday’s development squad.
Sanders said: “You can tell after just five minutes of stepping through the door how big this club is and the history that goes along with that.
“Hopefully I can continue to develop and enjoy the experience over the course of the next year.
“There is a lot of work for me to do but it’s exciting times to be joining a club as big as Wednesday.”
