Sheffield Wednesday will finalise their pre-season plans next week.
The Owls are set to announce their full calendar of friendlies following the weekend, after thrashing out the details of their final two fixtures.
The Star understands Wednesday suffered a blow to their plans to face a Premier League club in a showpiece friendly on the final Saturday before the season begins on August 8.
It is understood that a meeting with Hull City was pencilled in for August 1 at Hillsborough but the Tigers’ final day relegation to the Championship scuppered the plans.
The only summer plan Wednesday have so far confirmed is their annual training camp in Portugal from July 22 to July 27.
The Owls will play one friendly match during the five-day trip to the Albufeira region.
Former Owls striker Leon Clarke has joined newly-promoted League One side Bury after his release from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 30-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Gigg Lane.
He spent two months on loan at Wigan Athletic last season.
Clarke was with the Owls for three and a half years, scoring 18 goals in 87 appearances before joining Queens Park Rangers.
