SHEFFIELD Wednesday are in talks with Preston over 21-year-old winger Danny Mayor, manager Dave Jones has confirmed.

The Owls boss likened Mayor to other young players who have joined the club this summer.

“He comes within what we are trying to build, like Rhys McCabe and Diogo Amado,” he said. “They’re players who will hopefully stand the club in good stead for many years and hopefully make the club money as well.

“He [Mayor] would fit into that young bracket who will knock on the first-team door and make a big impact, and also be the future of the club.”

Mayor would cost a fee.

Jones also confirmed that the Owls were interested in Danish striker Niklas Helenius but their interest was now at an end.

The Owls boss denied reports that he wants Irish midfield player Paul Corry.

Strikers Gary Madine and Chris Maguire trained today and if they have no reaction tomorrow will be in the squad to face Derby on Saturday.

Madine (knee) and Maguire (sore ribs) went off during the Cup-tie at Oldham on Monday, and Madine had a scan the following day.
