Sheffield Wednesday are poised to announced the return of Lewis McGugan’s to the club, the Star understands.

The Owls have agreed a fee with Watford over the permanent transfer of the attacking midfielder, who impressed during two loan spells last season.

It is understood McGugan completed a medical yesterday and was last night finalising personal terms with Wednesday.

While there have been plenty of changes at the club since the end of last season with Stuart Gray’s departure and the expansion of the sporting director committee, McGugan has remained a major transfer target for the Owls.

The former Nottingham Forest trainee made a big impression in his short time at Hillsborough last season, adding some much-needed creativity to the side.

He made 22 appearances, netting three goals and adding three assists.

McGugan played the final 20 minutes of Watford’s friendly with AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was last season frozen out by former Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic, barred from first team training and made available for loan.

But the Hornets’ managerial change at the end of last season saw McGugan handed a clean slate.

Following Watford’s promotion to the Premier League, he was nevertheless likely to remain on the fringes at Vicarage Road under Quique Sanchez Flores.
