First-choice Owls goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is expected to shake off his calf problem in time for tomorrow’s trip to play-off hopefuls Wigan Athletic.

Kirkland, out of contract at the end of the season, sustained the knock in training last Friday, meaning he missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Yeovil Town.

Damian Martinez deputised in between the sticks against the Glovers, making his 11th Owls start since joining the Championship club on loan from Arsenal, but he could not stop Ishmael Miller from scoring a brace either side of half-time in Somerset as the Owls slipped to a fourth loss in their last six matches.

Wednesday head coach Stuart Gray will have to make one enforced change to his starting line-up when they take on seventh-placed Wigan, who have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Utility player Sam Hutchinson, on loan from Chelsea, serves a one-match suspension, having been sent off for two bookable offences at Yeovil.

Wednesday have sold out their 4,200 ticket allocation for the derby at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, March 22.
