SHEFFIELD Wednesday have launched an North American academy by forging a partnership with a sports management company, Global Image Sports.
The Owls academy will link up with clubs in the USA and Canada, whose coaches and players will be able to work with Wednesday staff.
Wednesday had already forged some links with North America.
Academy manager Sean McAuley said: “We’re quite fortunate that we have finalised our partnerships in America with a company that has an excellent standing in the States.
“Global Image Sports currently run international academies for other Premier League and Championship clubs and we’re delighted to extend that link.
“GIS are a company brought to our attention through the chairman and vice chairman here at Sheffield Wednesday. We were really impressed with them and they were equally as impressed with the work that we have carried out in North America.
“It seems a perfect fit for both parties.”
Global Image Sports chief operating officer Mike Kelleher said: “Global Image Sports has strong links with Sheffield Wednesday at a number of levels and we are looking forward to working together on a formal basis.
“We are certain the North American clubs that partner with Sheffield Wednesday will benefit from the opportunity of having their players and coaches working with the expertise that exists within the academy at this great football club.”
The Sheffield Wednesday North American Academy will be hosting a series of player events with its partner clubs during 2012-13, culminating in the SWFC National Camp, directed by McAuley and his senior staff.
