Sheffield Wednesday have swooped to sign defender Marnick Vermijl for an undisclosed fee from Manchester United.
Vermijl, primarily a right-back, has penned a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Championship club.
The deal for Vermijl comes just days after he saw his proposed switch to Belgian side Lokeren fall through.
Vermijl, a former Belgian Under-21 international, has struggled to break into United’s first-team set-up, making just two cup appearances. His last outing for the Red Devils came in their 4-0 defeat at MK Dons in the Capital One Cup last August.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at NEC, featuring 28 times for the Dutch side, hitting three goals. Vermijl can be fielded anywhere across the back four but his preferred position is believed to be full-back.
Vermijl will wear shirt number 36 and becomes the Owls’ second piece of transfer deadline day business for the Owls after they completed a deal for CSKA Sofia striker Sergiu Bus for an undisclosed fee. Read more: click here
